Ageing Fabric using Tea Dye Method

This method is just one of many used to give an aged look to stitchery projects.  We have used it on a number of ours and have been pleasantly surprised with the outcome.  Follow the steps below and practice on some scraps of homespun or osnaburg before applying to one of your  projects just before final binding, framing etc.

1.  If you have used water erasable pen on your project, gently wash it out.
2.  Make a very strong cup of tea with three or four tea bags.  Allow to cool, then pour into a spray bottle (preferable one which has a fine mist).
3.  Lightly spray the stitchery with the cold tea and iron dry (you might need to clean your iron afterwards to avoid staining clothes).  Repeat if stronger colour effect is desired.
NB - Tea Dyeing after stitching ensure no loss of colour when the item is washed to remove the erasable pen.

Go to it - experiment!
